How Nationwide STD Testing Works

Man and Woman kissing

Sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) run rampant without our even knowing it. There are more than 30 different bacteria, viruses, and parasites that can be transmitted through sexual contact. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), every single day across the world, more than one million STDs are acquired. And importantly, most of them are asymptomatic, meaning the carriers show no signs or symptoms. The only way to know for sure if you're infected is through STD testing.

eNational Testing has officially expanded to offer nationwide access to various types of testing, including STD testing. Keep scrolling to learn more about how it works and why you should care.

National STD Testing with eNational Testing

We know that STD testing can trigger anxiety. eNational has taken the additional steps to ensure that your experience with us is quick, discreet, and easy. You don't even need a doctor's order. Purchase your test online and find the testing location nearest you.

Here's how the full process works and what you can expect.

When you begin to place your order, you'll be able to add all of the labs you wish to test for as individual tests or as a panel. You'll also choose from over 2,700 locations to find the most convenient for you. After you've paid for your order, you'll receive your lab requisition via email within 24 hours.

2. Head to the Lab for Your Testing

Once you have your lab requisition, you're clear to head to your designated lab site for collection. Some collection sites allow you to make an appointment in advance, although walk-ins are welcome.

3. Receive Your Results Via Email

The majority of the time, our lab results are emailed to you within two to three business days. If you have any positive results, you'll receive a phone call. And should you require any treatment, you can schedule a consultation with a medical provider. If you have any questions throughout the process, we're here to help you! Call our patient services department at 888-362-4321. You can also email us at patientservices@pwnhealth.com. We're available to assist you Monday through Friday from 9:00 am-5:30 pm EST.

Common Questions We Get About Nationwide STD Testing

Knowledge is power and you can take better care of your health by familiarizing yourself with the basics. Here are some of the most common questions we get about STD testing.

How old does someone need to be to receive STD testing?

The minimum age requirement for STD testing varies by state. Learn more about each state's policies from the CDC.

How long does it take to get my results?

You should receive your results via email within two to three business days.

Can I get tested during my period?

Yes — a woman's cycle shouldn't have any impact on STD testing. If there's a risk for STDs, do not wait.

What is the incubation period for different STDs?

The incubation period refers to the time that lapses between when someone was first infected with an STD and when they started exhibiting the signs/symptoms of an STD.

  • HIV: Two to six weeks
  • Syphilis: One to three months
  • Herpes: Two to 12 days
  • Chlamydia: One to three weeks
  • Gonorrhea: Two to three days
  • Hepatitis B: One to five months
  • Hepatitis C: Two to six months
  • Trichomonas: Five to 28 days

Remember that even if you don't feel infected, an STD is still impacting your health. Many carriers don't display any symptoms at all.

Are STDs deadly?

Yes, some can be. STDs like syphilis, HIV, and hepatitis B and C are very serious. They can lead to long-term health issues as well as possible death, if not addressed early and appropriately.

Are STDs curable?

Currently, syphilis, gonorrhea, chlamydia, and trichomoniasis are curable. Hepatitis B, herpes simplex, HIV, and human papillomavirus (HPV) are not curable.

Do you have to have intercourse in order to acquire an STD?

No, intercourse isn't required. STDs are able to be spread through other forms of sexual contact.

Does birth control protect you against STDs?

No! Birth control is just that — it only decreases the likelihood of pregnancy. Barrier contraceptives, like condoms, greatly reduce the risk of becoming infected but still aren't 100% effective.

Do you need to get tested if you only have one partner?

Yes. As a precaution, even if you're in a monogamous relationship, you should get yearly STD testing.
